180 BPM

I went in for an ultrasound today and got to see the baby for the first time. Seeing a heartbeat was an amazing relief :)

This little bugger has a strong heart rate of 180 beats per minute and measured in at 1.78 cm crown to rump (about the size of a kidney bean).  This puts us at eight weeks pregnant, with a new due date of December 3.

I won't see the doctor again until our 12 week checkup, barring any complications. Which is good, since right now I'm busy enough keeping my head out of the toilet as the morning sickness is in full swing!

Progress...

Well, we went to the doctor last week with some concerns about the status of this pregnancy. He took some quantitative blood work to see how things were going. I had an hCG level of 49,000 on Wednesday which had risen to 64,000 by Thursday. These are strong, healthy numbers and not what we expected to hear! Still, we are holding out for the ultrasound appointment on April 23 before we get our hopes up too high.

If the ultrasounds shows normal development, we will also be able to get a better idea of a due date and how far along I am. With all the irregularities in my body around the time I got pregnant, we didn't have any solid dates to go off of and could basically be anywhere from 4-10 weeks pregnant :)
