4 Months!

Today marks Owen's four month birthday. Over the last few months, we have watched Owen grow at what seemed like an astounding rate. Sure enough, at Owen's checkup on Friday he weighed in at 15.1 lbs., putting him in the 75th percentile! Quite a jump from the 20th perecentile, which is where he was two months ago.  Additionally, he has more than doubled his birth weight and now outweighs Indiana.  Look out world, here comes trouble!

 "Who, me?"

As Owen has developed some level of motor skills, he has taken an interest in toys and activities like his Jolly Jumper and Baby Einstein activity mat. It is pretty adorable to watch him bounce around in the doorway or babble away at a toy octopus. Every day he seems a little bit more human and a little less like the alien baby we brought home just a few months ago!
 Pardon his drool!

Last night we had some friends over with their five month old baby girl, Freya. It has been interesting to compare notes on the two babies as they've grown up- for instance, Freya was born at over 10 lbs. compared to Owen's 6.7 lbs, but he now outweighs her. However, her head control and grasping skills are way beyond his, and she is very loud! Owen just stared at her in amazement as she squealed and screamed and threw around her toys. I guess I know what I have to look forward to in a month or so!

In other news, Owen and I will be traveling to Utah next week to visit the families and friends, which is sure to be a good time. I am especially excited as my aunt, uncle and cousins will be coming out from Philadelphia. However, I am a bit nervous to take Owen on the airplane- wish me luck!

February 2010

February was a busy month in the Brantley Jones household! We started out the month with a weekend trip to Kelowna, BC to celebrate Valentine's Day. We took a 4 hour drive inland and stayed in a super nice hotel suite (bigger than our condo!). We had an indoor picnic, watched the Olympics, and just generally hung out. It was nice to get away for a few days! Owen and I slept through most of the driving, but Dave and Indiana pulled over a few times to play in the snow.

We also had the pleasure of hosting the Winter Olympics in Vancouver this year, and it was very exciting to see it all come together. After all the opposition to the Olympics, and after getting off to a rocky start, the 2010 Olympics were a huge success for Canada. The city of Vancouver came together far more than anyone expected, the weather was gorgeous (for us- not the skiiers), and Canada claimed not only their first gold on home soil, but six more (including much anticipated gold medals in mens and womens hockey).
We did not have tickets to any events or ceremonies this time (we were both lucky enough to have tickets during the Salt Lake Olympics in 2002) but did make it downtown to join in the celebration. We took Owen down to check out the goings on and had a great time. While Dave and I proudly wore our USA apparel (we had to drive into Washington to pick some up!) Owen wore his tiny Canada hoody and was a big hit. Dave also joined his friends at a bar downtown for the gold medal USA vs. Canada hockey game (and, despite cheering for the USA, came home unscathed!).

Team USA!
Our favorite little Canuck.
Dave and Owen enjoying "man time" (aka hockey).

Later in the month, Dave traveled to San Francisco for the Biophysical Conference and presented some of his latest research. His presentation went well and he got to check out Alcatraz, Ghiradelli Square, and visit with Patrick, Kathy, and Peter Jones.  His trip left me alone with Owen for five days, which was an adventure! All was going well until Owen came down with his first stomach flu...lets just say we didn't get much sleep that week!

We have started to feed Owen some rice cereal, as he is almost 4 months old now and is still ALWAYS hungry. He has really enjoyed the cereal and it has made for some messy (but cute!) photo ops.

And lastly, we snapped these adorable pictures of Owen in the tub the other night which I just had to share!
